- U3-L021D and U5-L021C compatibility: Both models share the same 14.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the same cell pack powers both. Swapping between these two models is straightforward because the voltage and physical interface are identical across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through discharge under simulated motor load. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly and did not trip prematurely under normal suction draw. Cell balance across the Ni-MH pack stayed within acceptable deviation through three full cycles.
- Dock charging on Media stick vacuums: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Ni-MH cells in continuous trickle charge degrade faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock until the next use.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor draws more current than rated — usually because the filter is partially blocked. A restricted airflow path forces the motor to work harder, pulling higher current from the pack. The BMS sees this as an elevated load and begins throttling output voltage before the cell capacity is actually depleted. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest suction at full charge.
Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is sustained against a blockage or heavily loaded carpet, current draw spikes beyond the pack's rated threshold. The BMS disconnects to protect the cells, then resets once temperature and current drop. Check the filter and clear any blockage at the nozzle — the trip threshold on this pack sits around the 3A sustained draw mark, so a clean airflow path keeps it from triggering.
