- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the MeiZu 16 through a full discharge-charge sequence and monitored BMS cutoff behavior. Charge termination triggered correctly at 4.35V and low-voltage protection engaged cleanly below 3.0V — no rogue cutoffs mid-session.
- First cycle after installation: Disable fast charging for the first complete discharge-charge cycle after fitting this cell. The fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — running fast charge current into an uncalibrated cell can cause the OS to misreport percentage by as much as 10–15% until the coulomb counter resets.
Why the MeiZu 16 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The MeiZu 16 uses a coulomb counter and fuel gauge IC that builds a discharge model against the original cell's impedance curve. When a new cell goes in, that stored model no longer matches the actual cell chemistry — so the OS percentage reading drifts. This shows up as the indicator reading 40% while the phone is already struggling under load, or jumping from 20% straight to shutdown. One full slow discharge-charge cycle forces the fuel gauge IC to relearn the new cell's curve and anchor the percentage readout to real capacity.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity problem. Under high-draw loads — modem activity, screen at full brightness, GPS active — the cell voltage drops sharply in the 3.5–3.6V range before the OS percentage gauge catches up. The phone's protection circuit interprets this as an undervoltage event and cuts power immediately. Let the phone complete two full discharge cycles before drawing any conclusions about the replacement cell. After recalibration, the fuel gauge's state-of-charge model aligns with the actual cell voltage and the early shutdowns stop.
