Metrologic MS1633 FocusBT — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (70-72018)
This is a 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-ion cell built to slot into the Metrologic MS1633 FocusBT barcode scanner. The MS1633 FocusBT is a Bluetooth handheld scanner used in retail and warehouse inventory operations. Voltage, capacity, and connector match the original pack exactly.
- MS1633 FocusBT platform fit: The FocusBT runs its Bluetooth radio and imager off a shared 3.7V rail. Both draw simultaneously on every trigger pull, so the BMS must tolerate combined inrush without dropping out. This cell's protection circuit is rated for that combined load without tripping on normal scan bursts.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated trigger-plus-radio load sequences on the MS1633 FocusBT. The BMS held voltage above the scanner's minimum threshold across sustained burst scanning, and the cradle dock reported charge accepted without error on every test unit.
- First-shift cradle conditioning: After installing this pack, place the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before starting pick-and-pack. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near its minimum state of charge — a fully topped cell prevents false BMS cutoffs on the first shift of use.
Why the MS1633 FocusBT drops its Bluetooth link during rapid scan bursts
The FocusBT's radio and imager fire together on each trigger pull. An aged or partially charged cell can't sustain the combined current draw without momentary voltage sag. When cell voltage dips below the scanner's radio-hold threshold — typically around 3.2V under load — the Bluetooth stack resets before the imager finishes its read cycle. A fresh, fully charged replacement cell maintains voltage well above that threshold and keeps the radio link stable through high-frequency scan sequences.

A charging error on the dock immediately after a battery swap is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a faulty cell. The MS1633 FocusBT dock uses spring-pin contacts that pick up oxidation and debris quickly in warehouse environments. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the scanner body with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the error clears within 30 seconds of reseating, the contacts were the cause — the cell itself is fine and charging normally.
