This 7.2V, 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Motorola CP150, CP200, CP250, and PR400 portable two-way radios. It matches the original voltage rail, connector, and BMS handshake spec for these radios. Capacity figure is from the product specification — 12.96Wh total energy.
- CP150 / CP200 / CP250 / PR400 platform fit: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, 7.2V rail, and contact layout. The BMS on this pack uses the same handshake protocol the charger dock expects, so no firmware mismatch or dock rejection on first insertion — provided the gold contacts are clean.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated PTT transmit loads on a CP200 body. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping into overcurrent lockout, and voltage held stable across sustained RF output at standard TX power.
- First insertion contact reset: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack immediately. Wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth and reseat firmly. The CP-series dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it begins charging — a single reseating usually clears it.
Why the CP200 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery
The CP200 steps down transmit power when the battery voltage sags below its internal threshold under sustained RF load. A new cell at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V per cell — has higher internal impedance than a fully charged, conditioned cell. This impedance causes a sharper voltage sag during the current draw of a transmission. One or two full charge cycles bring cell impedance down and the radio holds rated TX power through the shift.

The CP150 and CP200 use a voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar maps to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new cell shipped at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged cell, so the radio correctly displays fewer bars. This is not a faulty pack. Seat the battery in the dock and charge to completion — the indicator should read full bars once the cell reaches 8.4V at the pack terminals.
