- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the XT2016 platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, voltage settled at 3.85V nominal, and the charge IC engaged without fault flags.
- First-cycle fast charge protocol: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate its discharge curve against the new cell before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the KG40 replacement cell
This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity problem. The fuel gauge IC on the XT2016 was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original aged cell. When the new KG40 cell drops under modem or display load, voltage sags faster than the IC expects, and the phone interprets it as a dead cell. The fix is one complete uninterrupted discharge from 100% to automatic shutdown, followed by a full charge without interruption. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets against the new cell's actual curve.
Phone won't power on after the KG40 sat in storage
Li-polymer cells shipped or stored in a discharged state can drop below 2.5V per cell, which triggers a BMS lockout to prevent damage. The XT2016 will show no response — no charge indicator, no vibration — if the cell is in lockout. Connect the phone to a wall adapter, not a PC port, and leave it undisturbed for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge IC detects voltage above the recovery threshold (typically around 2.7V), it will begin a trickle pre-charge and the battery icon will appear.
