This 3.89V, 4200mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the factory NF50 battery in the Motorola Edge 30 Pro (XT2205-3). It fits directly into the Edge 30 Pro chassis and connects to the same flex ribbon and BMS board as the original cell. Capacity is 4200mAh (16.34Wh), matching the OEM specification.
- Edge 30 Pro platform fit: The XT2205-3 uses a 3.89V nominal cell with a specific connector pitch and BMS handshake tied to Motorola's charge IC. This cell matches that voltage rail and connector, so the charge IC initialises without throwing a battery authentication error.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through Motorola's USB-PD fast charge sequence and monitored BMS response across the full charge curve. The protection circuit held cutoff at the correct upper voltage and did not trip during modem-load discharge cycles.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated coulomb counter — which is the main cause of erratic percentage readings after a cell swap.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Edge 30 Pro after a cell swap
The Edge 30 Pro's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 pulls hard under 5G modem activity and high-refresh display loads. A new cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge IC will report 25% remaining while actual cell voltage has already sagged below the shutdown threshold — typically 3.4V under load on this platform. The SoC cuts power to protect the cell before the OS reads the drop. One full slow-charge cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter and closes this gap.
USB-PD fast charge not working on the first cycle after replacement
The Edge 30 Pro's charge IC sends a handshake to confirm cell identity before enabling 68W TurboPower. On a freshly installed cell, the BMS has not yet completed its first full charge handshake, so the charge IC falls back to standard 5V/2A input. This is not a fault — it resolves after the first complete charge cycle. If fast charge still does not engage after two full cycles, confirm the cable supports USB-PD at 20V and re-seat the battery flex connector.
