MSI A5000 / A6000 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY-L74)

This is an 11.1V, 4400mAh (48.84Wh) Li-ion battery for the MSI A5000, A6000, A6005, A6200, and related notebooks. It replaces OEM part numbers BTY-L74 and BTY-L75, among others. Fit the battery when the original no longer holds a usable charge or the laptop shuts down unexpectedly under load.

  • A-series notebook compatibility: The MSI A5000 and A6000 lines share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. One cell fits across the group because the voltage rail and thermal cutoff thresholds are identical across these boards.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and recharge cycles on an MSI A6000 board. The BMS handshake completed on first insertion, charge accepted without interruption, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-cell cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration: After fitting this battery, run a full discharge until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell

MSI notebooks store battery health data in EEPROM on the old cell. When a new cell is installed, the BIOS compares real-time readings against stale EEPROM data and flags a mismatch as poor health. This is a firmware reporting issue, not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge. After one or two of these learn cycles, the BIOS recalibrates and the health warning clears.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on the gauge

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual charge curve. The gauge overestimates remaining capacity, so the reading shows 20–30% while the cell voltage has already dropped below the safe operating floor. Under combined CPU and display load, voltage sags faster and the BMS triggers an emergency cutoff before the OS can issue a low-battery warning. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and recharge cycles — the fuel gauge IC maps the new cell's curve and the shutdowns stop.
