Why the Versa N1100 BIOS reports poor battery health after a cell swap
The Versa N1100 BIOS reads health data stored in the old cell's EEPROM and compares it against the new cell's charge behaviour. A fresh cell has no accumulated cycle data, so the BIOS flags it as degraded — that reading is wrong. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge gives the fuel gauge IC enough data to recalibrate. After two or three full cycles, the health indicator corrects itself.
Versa N1100 shutting down at 20–30% charge remaining
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under combined CPU and display load, even though the OS fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. The fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell yet, so its percentage estimate is ahead of actual cell voltage. It is not a faulty battery. Run two full discharge cycles to hibernate-cutoff and the fuel gauge will align — shutdowns at high-indicated percentages stop once the IC maps the real voltage curve of the new cell.
