Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Nokia 2660 Flip 4G
This is a voltage cliff failure. A degraded cell cannot sustain voltage when the modem or display draws current — voltage drops sharply below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the fuel gauge still reads charge remaining. The phone interprets this as a normal shutdown rather than a low-battery event. Replacing the cell resolves it, but the fuel gauge IC still carries calibration data from the old cell, so the first few cycles on the new battery may show inaccurate percentages until the IC relearns the discharge curve.
Phone not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge over time, and if a replacement cell drops below approximately 2.5V per cell during storage, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage. The phone will show no response — no charge indicator, no boot. Connect the phone to a wall charger rather than a USB port for the first 15–20 minutes, as a wall adapter delivers enough current to nudge the BMS out of lockout. Once the charge indicator appears on screen, the cell is recovering and normal charging will resume.
