- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on Nokia 7 hardware. The BMS accepted the cell, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.35V, and protection cutoffs fired as expected under simulated load.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-charge cycle at standard current. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before any high-current session pushes current into an uncalibrated state.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Nokia 7 after a cell swap
The Nokia 7's fuel gauge IC holds a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell with a slightly different voltage-to-capacity profile causes the IC to misjudge remaining charge. Under modem TX bursts or screen-on loads, the cell voltage briefly dips below the BMS cutoff threshold — the phone shuts off even though the reported percentage looks safe. One complete slow discharge to 0% followed by a full charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and corrects the curve. After that cycle, reported percentage and actual cutoff voltage align.
USB fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement
On the first charge after a cell swap, the Nokia 7's charge IC may default to trickle or standard 5V charging rather than engaging the fast charge protocol. This happens because the BMS on a new cell starts in a conservative state until it has confirmed cell voltage and temperature are within the fast-charge window. Plug in, leave the phone idle for 10–15 minutes so the charge IC completes its initial cell health check, then unplug and reconnect. Fast charge should activate once the cell reads above 3.0V and the temperature check passes.
