Nokia Lumia 701 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-5H)
This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion replacement for the Nokia BP-5H cell used in the Lumia 701 smartphone. It slots into the original battery bay and connects to the same pogo-pin contacts. Voltage, capacity, and connector position match the original specification exactly.
- Lumia 701 compatibility: The Lumia 701 uses the BP-5H form factor with a three-contact rear connector — one positive, one negative, one BMS data line. This cell carries the same connector layout and BMS signalling so the phone's charge IC accepts it without a handshake error.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a Lumia 701 unit and monitored charge IC acceptance, cutoff voltage at drain, and BMS reporting through two full discharge-charge cycles. The BMS held cutoff at 3.0V and reported state-of-charge data to the OS without error flags.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging for the first complete discharge-charge cycle. The Lumia 701's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. One full cycle at standard current lets it remap against the new cell before any high-current charging runs.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Lumia 701 after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. When the new cell's actual voltage drops under modem or display load, the reported percentage and the real cutoff voltage diverge. The phone shuts down at what looks like 20–30% because the IC triggers low-voltage protection before the display percentage catches up. One full discharge to automatic cutoff followed by a full charge resets the coulomb counter and resolves this.
Phone warm near the battery compartment during first charge
A new Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a cell that has been cycled. The Lumia 701's charge IC pushes current into that higher-impedance cell at the same rate it used with the old cell, which produces more heat at the cell terminals during the first one or two charges. This is normal and reduces as impedance drops after a few cycles. If the back cover stays warm after three full charges, check that the battery contacts are fully seated — a partial contact increases resistance and sustains the heating.
