This is not a defective battery — it is the BMS applying conservative limits on an unconditioned cell. Run one full charge-to-depletion cycle before drawing conclusions about the replacement cell's performance. The fault flag typically clears automatically after that cycle completes.
Charge indicator stalls below 100% on first charge
The Nonin 8600's charge IC uses a delta-V detection algorithm to determine end-of-charge. On a new Ni-MH cell, the voltage peak is shallower than on a conditioned cell, so the IC terminates early or holds at 90–95%. This is a charge algorithm response, not a cell defect. Allow the device to complete at least one full charge-discharge cycle — after that, the cell's voltage curve steepens and the IC reads end-of-charge correctly. The indicator should reach 100% consistently from the second charge onward.
