About this replacement
Palm Tungsten E2 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GA1Y41551)
This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-Polymer battery for the Palm Tungsten E2 PDA. It replaces OEM part GA1Y41551, which powers the device's Palm OS environment, RAM, and display. If your Tungsten E2 won't hold a charge or dies without warning, this cell restores full power capacity.
- Tungsten E2 platform fit: The Tungsten E2 uses a flat Li-Polymer cell with a specific connector and BMS handshake tied to the Palm OS power management stack. This replacement matches those electrical requirements — voltage curve, cell geometry, and termination point.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Tungsten E2 platform. The BMS reached full termination voltage without tripping an error state, and the device recognised the cell correctly through Palm OS power reporting.
- Sync before you swap: The Tungsten E2 holds contacts, calendar entries, and open application state in volatile RAM. That RAM is powered directly by the main battery. Perform a full HotSync to your PC or Mac before removing the old cell — anything not synced will not survive the swap.
Why the Tungsten E2 loses data when the battery dies completely
The Tungsten E2 has no internal backup cell to sustain RAM during a full power loss. All user data — contacts, memos, calendar entries, installed apps — lives in SRAM kept alive by the main battery. When that battery hits zero, the SRAM contents are gone. This is not a fault with the replacement cell; it is the architecture of every Palm OS device from this era. Always HotSync before the battery reaches a critically low state.
Tungsten E2 shows a blank screen or won't boot after installing a new battery
A freshly installed Li-Polymer cell shipped in storage mode may sit below the minimum voltage the Palm OS boot sequence needs to initialise. The device will show a blank screen or fail to reach the Palm logo. Connect the Tungsten E2 to its charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the screen remains blank after charging, perform a soft reset by pressing the recessed reset button on the back of the unit with the stylus tip — this clears any boot hang without erasing user data.
