Palm Tungsten E2 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GA1Y41551)
This 3.7V, 900mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the original GA1Y41551 cell in the Palm Tungsten E2 PDA. It powers the processor, touchscreen, and onboard applications. If your Tungsten E2 is shutting down unexpectedly or failing to hold charge across a full day of use, the original cell has likely degraded past its usable threshold.
- Tungsten E2 fitment: The GA1Y41551 cell shares a specific connector orientation and a thin 5.30mm profile that fits the Tungsten E2's tight battery bay. The BMS on this pack communicates charge state correctly with the device's charging circuit, so the battery indicator reads accurately rather than jumping erratically.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the Tungsten E2 platform. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly and the device reported full charge without false readings at the status bar.
- Sync before you swap: The Tungsten E2 holds open application state and unsaved data in SRAM, which is powered directly by the main battery. Do a full HotSync to your desktop before removing the old cell — anything not synced is gone the moment power drops.
Why the Tungsten E2 loses all data when the battery dies completely
The Tungsten E2 uses SRAM for active memory — unlike flash storage, SRAM requires continuous power to retain data. When the main battery fully discharges, SRAM loses power and everything stored there is wiped. This includes contacts, calendar entries, and any app data that hadn't been written to internal flash. There is no secondary backup cell in the Tungsten E2 to bridge power during a swap. The only protection is a completed HotSync before the battery reaches zero.
Tungsten E2 won't turn on after fitting a new battery
A new lithium-polymer cell ships at a partial state of charge — typically around 40–60% — to meet transport safety requirements. The Tungsten E2 boot sequence requires a minimum voltage threshold to initialise the processor and load the OS from flash. If the cell voltage is too low, the device appears completely dead even though the battery and hardware are fine. Connect the device to its charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on, and confirm the charging LED activates to verify the battery is seated correctly.
