Why the HC-V520M displays a dead battery icon on a new, charged replacement
The HC-V520M reads battery state by mapping terminal voltage against a stored discharge curve. A new third-party cell hasn't been profiled by the camera body yet, so the indicator defaults to empty even when the cell is fully charged. This isn't a fault in the cell — it's the BMS encountering an uncalibrated profile. One full charge-and-discharge cycle performed inside the camcorder body resets this. After that cycle, the indicator tracks normally.
Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording on the HC-V520M
Erratic percentage jumps happen when the camcorder's voltage-threshold indicator maps differently to the discharge curve of a new cell compared to the worn OEM cell it replaced. The HC-V520M draws variable current during recording — optical image stabilisation, sensor processing, and autofocus all spike draw simultaneously. Those spikes cause momentary voltage sag that the uncalibrated BMS reads as a sharp capacity drop. Run two full charge cycles inside the camera body and the percentage display stabilises as the BMS learns the new cell's curve. After calibration, the reading should stay consistent above 3.5V under load.
