This 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the KX-A45 pack in Panasonic cordless phone handsets. It fits the KX-T9100, KX-T9150, KX-T9200, KX-T9220, and over 20 additional models in the same series. The cell block matches the original voltage rail and connector, so no modifications are needed.
- KX-T9100 series handset compatibility: These models share a 4.8V four-cell NiMH pack with the same physical footprint and connector orientation. The base station charges via contact pins rated for this voltage range, so the handset accepts this pack without BMS conflicts.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the KX-T9100 base station and confirmed full charge acceptance, stable standby draw, and clean cutoff at low-voltage threshold — no false error lights triggered.
- First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless phones: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells from storage sit at a suppressed voltage. The slow first charge allows each cell to reach rated capacity evenly. Skipping this step causes the base to underestimate capacity from cycle one.
Range dropping mid-call after a new NiMH pack is installed
DECT handsets regulate transmit power based on battery voltage. When a freshly installed NiMH pack hasn't completed conditioning cycles, voltage sags faster under RF load than the base station expects. The handset lowers transmit power to compensate, which compresses range. After three to five full charge-discharge cycles, the cells stabilise and voltage sag under RF load narrows significantly. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the handset sits flush in the base — a misaligned contact means partial charges every time.
Base station shows no-charge or error light with a new battery installed
NiMH packs shipped from storage can arrive at or below 4.0V — low enough that some Panasonic base stations interpret the pack as faulty and refuse to start the charge cycle. Remove the handset, hold the power button for five seconds to drain residual circuit voltage, then reseat it firmly in the base. If the error clears within two minutes and the charge indicator activates, the base accepted the pack. If the error persists, measure the battery voltage with a multimeter — anything below 3.6V requires a trickle pre-charge before the base will recognise it.
