This 10.65V 8400mAh (89.46Wh) Li-ion battery replaces the CF-VZSU46 and related OEM part numbers across the Toughbook CF-30, CF-31, and CF-53 series. It fits rugged field laptops where battery failure means lost productivity on-site. Voltage, capacity, and connector type match the original cell specification.
- CF-30, CF-31, and CF-53 platform fit: These three Toughbook generations share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and 10.65V rail. The BMS handshake protocol is consistent across the CF-VZSU46 family, which is why one replacement cell covers all three platforms and the extended OEM part number variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a CF-30 unit, monitoring BMS communication through the SMBus interface. BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new CF-VZSU46 cell
The Toughbook CF-30 BIOS reads health data from EEPROM stored on the battery's BMS board, not from live cell measurements. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM data does not yet match the BIOS's learned discharge profile from the old cell, so the firmware flags it as degraded. This is not a fault with the replacement battery. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — the BIOS learn cycle will recalibrate and the poor health flag will clear. After two or three full cycles, the health status reported in Panasonic's battery diagnostics should read normal.
Toughbook CF-30 shuts down abruptly when the OS fuel gauge still shows 20–30% remaining
This happens because the fuel gauge IC is calibrated against the old cell's discharge curve, not the new one. The IC predicts remaining capacity using a stored model, and when the model doesn't match the actual voltage drop of fresh cells, it misjudges the cutoff point. The laptop shuts down the moment the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold, even though the gauge still reads 20–30%. To fix this, run three complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles — by the third cycle the fuel gauge IC will have rebuilt its model against the new cell and the cutoff will align with an accurate state of charge reading near 0V nominal cutoff of 9.0V.
