PEUGEOT ELIS 1500 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (23225)
This 3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original power cell in the PEUGEOT ELIS 1500 electric salt and pepper mill. It fits directly into the mill's battery compartment and powers the motorized grinding mechanism. OEM part numbers 23225, 23232, BLD-83595, and IFCF12345 all cross to this cell.
- ELIS 1500 motor compatibility: The ELIS 1500 grinding motor draws short, sharp current bursts each time the mill activates. The BMS on this cell handles those pulse loads without tripping into protection mode, which is the failure point on generic Ni-MH cells that share the same form factor but lack adequate discharge rating.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through repeated grinding activations on the ELIS 1500 and monitored BMS behaviour across cold and warm conditions. Voltage held above the low-battery cutoff threshold consistently through extended grinding sessions without thermal shutdown.
- Contact drying after kitchen use: Wipe the charging contacts on the mill's base with a dry cloth before reconnecting to the charger. Steam from nearby cooking or a wet countertop deposits moisture on the contacts, and the BMS will block charging until those contacts read clean and dry.
Why the ELIS 1500 grinding motor weakens before the battery reads empty
Ni-MH cells in compact mills don't fail linearly. As the cell ages, internal resistance climbs and voltage sags hard under the motor's activation spike — even though the resting voltage still looks acceptable. The mill's control circuit sees the sag, reduces power to the motor, and the grind becomes uneven or sluggish. Replacing the cell restores the voltage delivery the motor needs at the moment of load. A fresh cell at 3.6V nominal should hold above 3.2V under the motor's starting draw.

This happens when the cell has developed a shallow charge memory — common in Ni-MH cells that are repeatedly topped off before they discharge meaningfully. The battery accepts a surface charge quickly, the indicator trips to full, but usable capacity underneath that surface layer is minimal. The fix is not a reset procedure — the cell needs replacement when this pattern appears. Check that the new cell reaches a resting voltage of 3.6V after a full charge cycle before first use in the mill.
