- A13463 and PSD5 compatibility: Both models run the same 6V charging rail and use an identical connector footprint. The charge controller in each fitting expects a Ni-CD cell at this voltage — substituting a different chemistry will confuse the trickle charge circuit and may permanently fault the fitting.

A fresh Ni-CD cell shipped from storage hasn't completed a full charge-discharge cycle, so its usable capacity on day one is lower than rated. The charge controller measures available energy during the duration test and logs a fail if output drops below the threshold before time is up. One full manual test cycle — run within 24 hours of installation — conditions the cell and lets the controller recalibrate its capacity register. After that cycle, re-run the duration test and it should pass at the rated period.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
A cell that has been in storage for several months will sit at a lower resting voltage than the charge controller's float acceptance window. When the controller sees a voltage below its threshold, it holds the fault LED red rather than switching to green. Leave the fitting powered on mains for 12–16 hours — the trickle circuit will bring the cell up into the acceptance window and the LED should shift to green. If it stays red past 24 hours, measure the cell terminal voltage directly; it should read above 5.4V before the controller will accept it.
