Charger not accepting the RipStik pack after long storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack sits for several months, cell voltage can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell — and the charger will not begin a charge cycle. This is a voltage floor protection in the charger, not a dead pack. Connect the battery for 10–15 minutes anyway; some chargers will trickle-feed the pack back above the acceptance threshold before switching to normal charge mode. If the charger light stays off or flashes an error after 20 minutes, check cell voltage at the pack terminals — anything below 15V total indicates cells may have deep-discharged past safe recovery.

Board cuts out mid-ride on hills but recovers when you stop

Hill starts and sustained inclines pull peak current from the pack. When the state of charge is low, that current draw causes a voltage sag that trips the BMS over-discharge protection — the board cuts power, then recovers once the load drops. This is not a faulty battery; it is the BMS protecting cells from damage under combined low-charge and high-draw conditions. To avoid mid-ride cutouts on slopes, start hill climbs with the pack above 50% charge. If cutouts happen even on a full charge, measure pack voltage under load — sag below 18V during motor engagement points to cell degradation in the old pack, not this replacement.
