This is a voltage cliff issue. When the display backlight and Wi-Fi radio draw current simultaneously, the combined load pulls cell voltage down faster than the OS battery model expects. The system reads the voltage drop as a critically low state and triggers shutdown — even though the percentage shown is still in the teens or twenties. The fix is a full recalibration cycle: discharge to shutoff, charge to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, the fuel gauge maps the new cell's actual voltage curve and the premature cutoffs stop.

The fuel gauge IC stores learned capacity data from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored data no longer matches the real voltage curve, so the percentage display drifts — sometimes jumping, sometimes reading full when the device is near empty. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single cycle re-anchors the fuel gauge to the new cell and the percentage display stabilises.
