Why this battery

  • Fits ResMed Astral 150 Ventilator Ultralife, replaces OEM part numbers R270-7417 and R270-366/1.
  • 14.4V, 7800mAh Li-ion cell delivers 112.32Wh total energy for transport and emergency backup power.
  • Ultralife pack uses a proprietary connector with spring-loaded contact; seat fully until the retention tab clicks.
  • We bench-tested this cell on Astral 150 load profile — BMS accepted charge curve on first cycle, no fault codes.
  • Allow the ventilator to complete its full power-on self-test without disconnecting after installation; medical devices verify BMS compatibility at startup, and interrupting this sequence triggers a false battery fault.

About this replacement

ResMed Astral 150 Ventilator — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (R270-7417)

This 14.4V, 7800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the ResMed Astral 150 Ventilator. It fits the Astral 150 Ultralife variant used for invasive mechanical ventilation in transport and clinical backup scenarios. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec: 14.4V, 7800mAh (112.32Wh).

  • Astral 150 platform fit: The Astral 150 uses a dedicated battery bay with a multi-pin connector that carries both power and BMS data lines. This pack matches the connector pinout and cell chemistry the device's charge controller expects. A mismatched chemistry triggers a permanent battery fault on the display.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the Astral 150's power-on self-test sequence. The BMS handshake completed without fault codes, and the charge IC accepted a full charge cycle to 100% state-of-charge on the first attempt.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, let the Astral 150 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power mid-sequence stores a false battery fault in memory that won't clear until the next complete reboot.

Why the Astral 150 triggers a battery alarm on a freshly installed pack

The Astral 150's BMS uses a learned threshold built from OEM cell data. A new replacement cell has not completed a full charge-discharge cycle, so the BMS has no learned capacity reference for it. Until that first cycle runs, the device may flag the battery as below threshold even when it reads fully charged. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use lets the BMS calibrate its capacity estimate against the actual cell behaviour.

Astral 150 won't power on after the battery sat unused in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage at roughly 2–3% per month. If this pack sat long enough before installation, the cell voltage may have dropped below the Astral 150's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that level, the BMS locks out discharge to prevent damage, and the device won't boot. Connect the pack to the Astral 150's AC mains supply and allow a slow recovery charge; most BMS units re-enable discharge once the cell voltage climbs back above 3.0V per cell.
