About this replacement
Rollei Actioncam 500 / 500 Sunrise — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (GLW08)
This is a 3.7V Li-ion cell rated at 1180mAh (4.37Wh), built to the same footprint as the GLW08 original. It fits the Rollei Actioncam 500 and Actioncam 500 Sunrise compact action cameras. If your original cell no longer holds a charge through a full recording session, this is the direct swap.
- Actioncam 500 and 500 Sunrise compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.7V supply rail. The GLW08 cell connects via the same three-contact strip, so the same replacement covers either variant without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Actioncam 500 body and monitored BMS handshake on first install. The camera accepted the cell without rejection errors, and the fuel gauge tracked discharge through to the low-battery cutoff without erratic jumps.
- First-install charge cycle on the Actioncam 500: Before shooting, run one full charge cycle inside the camera body using your original USB cable. The Actioncam 500 BMS maps its battery-remaining display against a stored discharge curve — completing a charge cycle from inside the body lets it re-calibrate that map to the new cell accurately.
Why the Actioncam 500 shows a dead-battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell
The Actioncam 500 reads remaining charge by comparing measured cell voltage against a fixed discharge curve programmed during manufacture. A new cell — even one at 80% charge — has a slightly different internal resistance profile than an aged original. The camera interprets the voltage offset as a depleted cell and triggers the low-battery warning prematurely. Running one complete charge-to-full cycle inside the camera body resets the reference point and clears the false indicator.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Actioncam 500 display
Erratic percentage readings after fitting a replacement cell are a calibration issue, not a fault with the cell itself. The camera's voltage-threshold indicator maps percentage in steps — if the new cell's discharge curve sits slightly above the original at a given state of charge, the display skips between steps unpredictably. Discharge the battery fully until the camera shuts off, then charge it to 100% without interruption. After one full cycle the readings stabilise; confirm the cell is accepted by checking the indicator holds steady above 3.6V at mid-charge.
