Why the Galaxy A3 2016 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The Galaxy A3 2016 uses a coulomb-counter-based fuel gauge IC that builds its percentage model from the original cell's discharge curve. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual cell chemistry, so the reported percentage drifts. The IC needs at least one full discharge down to automatic shutdown and one full charge to 100% before it recalibrates. Until that cycle completes, readings can be off by 10–20%. After recalibration, percentage tracking stabilises and matches real cell state accurately.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the worn original cell, which had a flatter voltage curve than the new cell. Under modem or display load, the new cell's voltage drops sharply below 3.4V at what the OS thinks is 25% remaining — the BMS reads this as a low-voltage event and cuts power immediately. Run one full discharge cycle without interruption and let the phone shut down on its own. After a full recharge, the fuel gauge recalibrates to the new curve and the premature shutdowns stop.
