- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the charge IC pushes high-current fast charging into an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Galaxy A60 after a cell swap
A new cell has a different discharge curve than the aged cell the fuel gauge IC was last calibrated against. When the phone's modem fires a high-current burst — during a call or a data handoff — the new cell's actual voltage drops below the shutdown threshold before the gauge reaches 0%. The phone reads 25% and cuts out. One full discharge-to-shutdown and uninterrupted recharge cycle resets the coulomb counter and eliminates this cliff.
USB-PD fast charge not recognised on the first cycle after replacement
Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charging handshake runs through the charge IC, which checks BMS state before accepting elevated voltage from the charger. On the first cycle after a cell swap, the BMS presents an uncalibrated state-of-charge flag that causes the charge IC to fall back to standard 5V charging. Complete one full charge cycle at standard rate first. After that cycle, the BMS clears the flag and the Adaptive Fast Charging handshake resumes normally on subsequent plugs.
