- SM-W2017 and G9298 compatibility: Both model numbers refer to the same Galaxy Golden 4 hardware platform. They share an identical battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits both without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the SM-W2017 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without triggering a charge-inhibit flag. The protection circuit responded normally to both charge cutoff at 4.35V and low-voltage cutoff under modem load.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This allows the fuel gauge IC to recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes power into an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Galaxy Golden 4
This is a voltage cliff failure, not a capacity problem. The Golden 4's dual-screen hardware and modem draw simultaneous current spikes that a degraded or freshly installed uncalibrated cell cannot sustain — voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the reported percentage looks safe. The OS sees a percentage derived from the fuel gauge IC, which is still mapped to the old cell's discharge curve. Run one full discharge-to-cutoff cycle and one full charge cycle to let the coulomb counter re-anchor to the new cell. After that cycle, shutdowns at 20–30% should stop.
Phone warm near the battery compartment during first charge
A new Li-Polymer cell typically has higher internal impedance than a used one broken in over many cycles. The charge IC compensates by increasing voltage slightly, which raises heat output at the cell surface during the first few charge cycles. This is normal and reduces as internal impedance drops with cycling. If the device stays warm beyond the third full charge cycle, check that the charger output does not exceed 5V/2A — the Golden 4's charge IC is not rated for high-wattage fast charge adapters.
