This 3.85V, 3600mAh (13.86Wh) lithium-polymer cell replaces the original EB-BS901ABY in the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G. It fits the SM-S901B/DS, SM-S901U, SM-S901U1, and related S901 variants. The replacement restores full charge capacity to phones where the original cell has degraded or failed to hold a charge.
- S901 platform compatibility: Every SM-S901 variant shares the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The fuel gauge IC on the S22 mainboard reads cell impedance on first boot — this cell presents within the expected range for the S901 charge controller to accept it without flagging a hardware mismatch.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on an SM-S901U through three full discharge-charge sequences. The BMS accepted the cell on first connection, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.35V, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold without requiring a manual reset.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. The S22's fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — running one slow cycle at standard charge current lets the coulomb counter build an accurate state-of-charge map before fast charging pushes higher current into an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
The S22 shuts down under modem and display load when cell voltage drops below the mainboard's cutoff threshold — even if the OS shows remaining charge. A new cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge IC can show 25% on screen while actual open-circuit voltage is already near 3.5V under load. This is a voltage cliff caused by the coulomb counter not yet knowing the new cell's discharge curve. Run two full cycles — discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% on standard charging — and the percentage reporting stabilises.
USB-PD fast charge not activating on first cycle after replacement
After a cell swap, the S22's charge IC sometimes holds the new battery at trickle current through the first partial charge rather than handshaking with the USB-PD adapter. This happens because the charge controller detects an unconditioned cell and defaults to a conservative pre-charge mode. Disconnect the cable, power the phone fully off, then reconnect to a Samsung-rated 25W adapter — the charge IC renegotiates the USB-PD contract on a cold start and fast charging resumes at the correct current. Confirm by checking that the phone displays "Fast Charging" within 10 seconds of plugging in.
