- First-cycle fast charge calibration: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the S6 Active after a cell swap
This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. A fresh Li-Polymer cell has a steeper voltage drop near the lower end of its curve than a degraded original cell. The phone reads 25% but the cell voltage has already dropped below the safe floor under modem or screen load, triggering an emergency shutdown. One full uninterrupted discharge-charge cycle resets the coulomb counter and aligns the percentage display to the new cell's actual curve.
USB fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement
On the first charge after installation, the charge IC may default to standard 5V/1A input until it confirms BMS readiness on the new cell. This is a protective handshake — the charger will not step up to fast-charge voltage on an uncalibrated cell. Let the phone charge fully once on standard power, then fast charging will negotiate normally on subsequent cycles. If fast charging still does not engage after two full cycles, check that the USB-C cable supports the required current rating.
