All four models share the same connector footprint, BMS handshake protocol, and 3.8V nominal voltage rail. Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the GT-i8580 after a cell swap
The GT-i8580's power management IC reads cell voltage to estimate remaining capacity. A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the degraded original — the voltage drops faster in the lower charge band than the fuel gauge expects. Under modem or display load, voltage sags below the cutoff threshold while the gauge still reads 20–30%. The fix is one complete discharge to automatic power-off, followed by a full charge at standard current, which resets the coulomb counter against the new cell's actual curve.
Phone not powering on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If this battery arrived below 2.5V per cell, the BMS may have entered lockout mode to prevent damage — the phone will show no response to the power button or charger. Connect the phone to a wall charger (not a USB port) for at least 15–20 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will trickle-charge the cell back above the BMS re-initialisation threshold, typically around 2.9–3.0V, after which normal charging resumes.
