Why the NP-N143 BIOS flags a new battery as poor health
The Samsung NP-N143 stores capacity and health data in EEPROM on the original battery's fuel gauge IC. When a replacement cell is installed, that EEPROM data is gone — the BIOS compares the new cell's reported state against a stored baseline that no longer matches. The result is a "battery health poor" or "replace battery" warning that shows up immediately, even with a new cell at full charge. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge gives the BIOS enough cycle data to rebuild its baseline and clear the warning. After two to three full cycles, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates and the health indicator reads correctly.
