BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after replacement
The NP930MBE stores historical charge data in EEPROM on the original battery's BMS. When a new cell goes in, the BIOS compares the new cell's EEPROM baseline against the usage history it expects, sees a mismatch, and flags the battery as unknown or degraded. This is a data mismatch, not a faulty cell. Running a complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the BIOS to write a new baseline. After two to three full cycles, the health indicator will update to reflect the actual cell condition.
Laptop shuts down abruptly at 20–30% charge shown
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's discharge curve. The IC still uses the old cell's voltage-to-capacity mapping, so it misreads the remaining charge and the system shuts down before the gauge hits zero. The cell itself is not defective — it simply hasn't taught the IC where its actual voltage cliff sits. Run two full discharge cycles down to hibernate cutoff and recharge fully each time. After that, the fuel gauge will track the new cell accurately and the premature cutoff will stop.
