This is a 7.4V, 700mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Samsung SC-D381, SC-D382, SC-D383, SC-D385, and compatible MiniDV camcorders using the IA-BP80WA battery. It slots into the same bay as the OEM pack and connects via the same contact plate. Capacity matches the original Samsung specification at 5.18Wh.

Why the SC-D38x battery indicator reads incorrectly after fitting a replacement cell
The SC-D38x uses a voltage-threshold system to estimate remaining charge. A new cell's discharge curve sits slightly differently from a worn OEM pack the camera body has been tracking. On first use, the indicator may jump or show full when the cell is partially charged. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle through the camera body lets the firmware recalibrate its threshold mapping to the new cell. After that single cycle, the indicator tracks reliably.

This happens when the BMS inside the camcorder has not yet authenticated the replacement cell. The camera reads the contact voltage at insertion and may flag it as absent or incompatible if the cell resting voltage sits outside its expected narrow window. Remove the battery, insert it again firmly to ensure full contact, then place the unit on charge via the OEM charger. Once charge current flows and the BMS registers the cell, the rejection clears. Confirm the cell is reading above 7.0V resting before reinserting.
