Why the VP-MS10 shows a dead battery icon on a partially charged replacement cell
Samsung's compact camera firmware maps battery percentage against a discharge curve calibrated to the original OEM cell. A new third-party cell has a slightly different open-circuit voltage profile at mid-charge states. The camera reads this as a lower charge level than the cell actually holds, triggering the low-battery icon early. Running one full charge cycle inside the camera body resets the threshold mapping and brings the indicator back into line.
Flash recycling slows and shots stall before the battery indicator drops
The flash capacitor on these Samsung compact models draws a sharp current spike each time it recharges between shots. As cell capacity fades toward end of life, internal resistance rises and voltage sags briefly under that spike. The camera interprets the sag as low power and pauses before allowing the next shot — even when the indicator still shows charge remaining. If recycling lag appears early in the battery's life, check that the cell is fully charged; a half-charged Li-ion cell at 3.7V will show this behaviour under flash load before a fully charged cell at 4.2V will.
