The SDC-MS61S reads battery level by comparing the cell's voltage against stored thresholds in the camera's firmware. A new third-party cell can have a slightly different discharge curve than the OEM cell the firmware expects. This causes the camera to misread voltage and trigger a low-battery warning even when the cell still has capacity remaining. One full charge-and-discharge cycle through the camera body usually recalibrates the indicator to the new cell.

Erratic percentage jumps happen when the camera's voltage-to-percentage mapping doesn't match the discharge curve of the replacement cell. The SDC-MS61S samples cell voltage and translates it to a percentage reading — if the curve shifts, the reading jumps. This is a display calibration issue, not a fault in the cell itself. Charge the battery fully to 4.2V via the camera body and complete one full discharge cycle to let the firmware re-anchor its voltage thresholds.
