This is a 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 smartphone. It fits the SM-G3588, SM-G3588V, SM-G3588D, and SM-G3556 among others. The OEM part numbers are EB-BG358BBC and EB-BG358BBE.
- SM-G3588 series compatibility: These variants share the same 3.7V power rail, identical connector pinout, and the same BMS handshake protocol — so one cell covers the full model range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on an SM-G3588 unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without triggering a charge-suspend fault. Capacity held within 3% of rated across the first three cycles.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the charge IC pushes higher current into an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
The Galaxy Core 2's fuel gauge IC carries over the discharge curve calibrated to the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits a voltage point the IC wasn't expecting, it interprets a sharp voltage drop as empty and cuts power — even though capacity remains. The modem and display load together can cause a short current spike that drops cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold at that miscalibrated point. Run one full discharge to below 5% and charge to 100% without interruption. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter resets and the shutdowns stop.
Phone not powering on after the battery sat discharged in storage
Li-ion cells that drop below approximately 2.5V trip the BMS into a lockout state — the protection circuit disconnects the cell to prevent damage, and the phone sees no voltage at all. A standard charger may not deliver enough trickle current to wake the cell from lockout. Connect the phone to a wall adapter — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. If the charging LED activates, the BMS has re-initialised; allow a full charge before booting.
