Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) — 3.85V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EB-BJ510CBC)
This is a 3000mAh, 3.85V lithium-ion replacement battery for the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016). It fits the SM-J5108, SM-J5109, Galaxy J5 6 Duos, and related variants using OEM part numbers EB-BJ510CBC, EB-BJ510CBE, and GH43-04601A. It replaces a degraded original cell that no longer holds a usable charge.
- SM-J5108 and J5109 series compatibility: These models share the same 3.85V cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between any variant in this lineup requires no modification — the connector seats and the charge IC communicates identically across the group.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a J5 (2016) unit. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake cleanly, held voltage above 3.6V through mid-discharge, and tripped the low-voltage cutoff at the correct threshold without early shutdown.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the coulomb counter locks in its reference points — skipping this step causes erratic percentage readings in the first few days.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the J5 (2016) after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still referencing the old cell's discharge curve. When the modem transmits or the display peaks, current draw spikes and the new cell's actual voltage drops below the shutdown threshold — even though the OS still shows 20–30%. The coulomb counter hasn't recalibrated yet, so it misreads remaining capacity. One full discharge to auto-off followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the reference curve and eliminates the premature cutoff.
USB fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement
The J5 (2016) charge IC runs a handshake with the BMS on the new cell before enabling elevated current. On the very first cycle, the IC defaults to standard 5V/1A until it confirms cell impedance is within range. This is normal behaviour — it is not a fault with the battery or the charger. Connect to the original Samsung charger and let the first charge complete fully at standard rate; fast charging activates automatically on the second cycle once the IC has logged the cell's impedance profile.
