Schuch Licht 8621 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (8621)
This is a 6V 2500mAh Ni-MH battery for the Schuch Licht 8621 emergency lighting unit. It fits ceiling and wall-mounted versions of the 8621 used across commercial and industrial installations. Voltage and capacity match the original cell so the charge controller operates within its normal acceptance window.
- Licht 8621 fitment: The 8621 emergency light runs a dedicated charge rail set for 6V Ni-MH chemistry. Swapping to a different voltage or chemistry will push the trickle charge outside the BMS acceptance band and trigger a permanent fault state on the controller board.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full mains-failure simulation. The BMS accepted charge from a cold state, the float voltage stabilised within the 8621's expected window, and the cell delivered load current through the full test duration without thermal cutoff.
- First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller measure the new cell under real load and register its capacity before any scheduled compliance test. Skipping this step often causes a false fail on the next duration test.

A new Ni-MH cell shipped from storage holds a partial charge — typically 60–75% of rated capacity. The Licht 8621's charge controller does not automatically condition a new cell; it begins float charging from whatever state the cell arrives in. If a compliance test runs before the cell has completed at least one full charge-discharge cycle, the light will cut out early and log a failure. Run one manual test cycle immediately after installation, then allow a full 24-hour charge before the compliance test.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
The Licht 8621 charge controller checks cell voltage at startup. A cell that has self-discharged below approximately 5.4V during storage sits outside the float acceptance window, and the controller logs a fault rather than beginning charge. To recover, leave the fitting on mains power for 48 hours — the controller will attempt a low-current pre-charge pass, and the indicator should shift to green once cell voltage crosses the acceptance threshold. If it stays red past 48 hours, check the cell voltage directly at the connector; a reading below 4V indicates a cell that will not recover and should be replaced.
