- Skil 2000 series compatibility: The 2000, 2125, 2305, and Cordless Screwdriver 2000 all share the same 3.6V single-stick battery format with an identical contact arrangement. One pack covers the full group because the voltage rail and connector geometry are unchanged across these variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through motor-start inrush cycles on the 2000 platform. The BMS held stable through repeated trigger pulls without tripping overcurrent protection, and cell voltage recovery between bursts stayed within the expected range for fresh Ni-MH cells at this capacity.
- Break-in procedure for Ni-MH cells: Run the tool at light load — short screws into softwood — for the first two charge-discharge cycles. Ni-MH cells reach full capacity after several conditioning cycles, so heavy torque applications from the first charge will understate actual pack performance.
Voltage sag under sustained load in compact Ni-MH drill packs
Compact 3.6V Ni-MH packs have a higher internal resistance than lithium formats. Under sustained load — driving long screws into hardwood, for example — the terminal voltage drops noticeably, which the tool reads as a weak pack. This is normal behaviour for Ni-MH chemistry under continuous draw, not a cell fault. Letting the pack rest for 30–60 seconds between heavy bursts allows the cells to recover voltage. A fully charged, conditioned pack should sit above 3.8V at rest.
Charger not accepting pack after extended storage
Ni-MH cells that have sat unused for several months can drop below the voltage threshold the Skil charger uses to detect a valid pack. If the charger shows no activity or blinks an error immediately after insertion, the cells may be at too low a voltage to trigger the charging circuit. Some chargers include a recovery or trickle mode — check the charger indicator sequence in the manual for this feature. If no recovery mode is available, a compatible Ni-MH charger with a manual trickle setting can bring the pack up to 3.0V, at which point the standard charger will recognise and accept it.
