Skyroam W19 / W20 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W91H)
This is a 3.7V, 2700mAh lithium-ion battery for the Skyroam W19, W19H, and W20 portable WiFi hotspot. OEM part number W91H. It replaces the original cell when capacity has faded or the battery no longer holds a charge through a full session.
- W19, W19H, and W20 compatibility: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the W91H fits each without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under combined cellular modem and WiFi radio load at maximum connected devices. The BMS held voltage above the modem's minimum operating threshold throughout the draw cycle and shut off cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff floor.
- Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the hotspot on a hard, open surface — not in a bag or pocket — during long sessions. When connected devices are at the edge of range, the cellular radio runs at full output power continuously, and trapped heat accelerates cell degradation faster than normal use cycles would.
Why the W19 drops all connected devices mid-session under heavy load
The W19 runs two power-hungry subsystems simultaneously: the cellular modem and the WiFi radio. When all available client slots are active, combined current draw spikes sharply. An aged or weakened cell cannot hold voltage steady under that spike, and the modem drops below its minimum operating threshold before the battery's own low-voltage cutoff triggers. The result is a mid-session disconnect even when the battery indicator still shows charge remaining. A fresh cell with adequate internal resistance resolves this — the voltage rail stays stable through the combined draw peak.
Hotspot shows battery present but won't boot after sitting unused
Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage, typically losing 2–3% capacity per month. If the W19 sat unused for several months, the cell may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage — usually around 3.0V — and the BMS has locked the cell in protection mode. Plugging in the charger for 15–20 minutes before attempting to power on allows the charger to trickle-feed the cell back above the BMS unlock threshold. If the device still won't respond after 30 minutes on charge, check that the charging indicator light is active — no light means the BMS has not yet released protection mode and the cell needs more recovery time at a consistent 5V input.
