Sony PlayStation Move Navigation Controller — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LIS1442)
This is a 3.7V, 600mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original LIS1442 battery in the Sony PlayStation Move Navigation Controller. It fits the CECH-ZCS1E, CECH-ZCS1U, and other Navigation Controller variants used with PlayStation 3. If your Navigation Controller no longer holds charge or powers off unexpectedly mid-session, this cell restores wireless function.
- Navigation Controller fit — CECH-ZCS1E and CECH-ZCS1U: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail. The LIS1442 footprint is specific to the Navigation Controller — it does not cross-fit the Move Motion Controller, which uses a different cell geometry.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Navigation Controller unit. The charge IC accepted the cell without fault flags, and the BMS engaged cutoff at the expected low-voltage threshold without requiring any manual reset.
- First-cycle calibration on the Navigation Controller: After installing, run one complete wireless play session through to automatic cutoff before recharging. The Navigation Controller's fuel gauge sets its empty reference point against the first full discharge cycle — skipping this step causes the battery indicator to read inaccurately from the start.
Why the Navigation Controller drops connection before the battery indicator hits empty
The Navigation Controller transmits wirelessly while simultaneously handling button inputs, and that combined load creates brief current spikes that a degraded or uncalibrated cell handles poorly. Even a new cell fresh out of packaging can show voltage sag under this load if it hasn't been cycled yet. When the cell voltage dips below the BMS trip threshold during a spike, the controller disconnects — even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. Running two to three full conditioning cycles closes the gap between indicated and actual charge state.
Fuel gauge jumping or showing wrong percentage after cell swap
The fuel gauge IC in the Navigation Controller learned the discharge curve of the original cell over many cycles. A new cell has a slightly different curve, so the gauge reads erratically until it recalibrates. This shows up as the percentage jumping — for example, dropping from 60% straight to 10% — or the controller shutting off at what appears to be a non-zero charge level. Let the cell discharge fully to automatic cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. Repeat this two to three times and the gauge stabilises to the new cell's curve.
