Sony Xperia XZ Premium — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (LIP1642ERPC)
This 3.8V, 3200mAh (12.16Wh) lithium-polymer cell replaces the OEM LIP1642ERPC in the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZ Premium TD-LTE, including SO-04J and Maple SS variants. It targets phones that shut down unexpectedly, hold a charge poorly, or no longer reach a full day of use on a single charge. Swapping this cell restores the voltage and capacity the device was calibrated to at the factory.

- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full discharge-charge sequence on the XZ Premium platform, confirmed BMS communication was accepted, and verified charge termination triggered correctly at 4.35V with no thermal anomalies from the charge IC.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge to around 5%, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the coulomb counter a full reference sweep against the new cell's discharge curve before Qualcomm Quick Charge pushes high current into an uncalibrated gauge.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the XZ Premium after a cell swap
The Xperia XZ Premium uses a coulomb counter that tracks charge flow in and out of the cell. When a new cell goes in, the counter still holds the old cell's learned capacity model, so its voltage-to-percentage map is wrong from the first boot. Under modem or display load, the actual cell voltage drops faster than the gauge predicts, and the BMS cuts power to protect the cell before the reported percentage reaches zero. One full uninterrupted discharge-charge cycle rewrites the reference model and eliminates the premature cutoff.
USB-PD or Quick Charge not engaging on first cycle after replacement
On the first charge after installation, the XZ Premium's charge IC may negotiate only standard 5V/0.9A rather than Qualcomm Quick Charge, because the BMS on a fresh cell applies conservative current limits until it has completed one full cycle. This is normal behaviour — it is not a fault with the charger or the cable. Charge the phone fully at standard rate on the first cycle. Quick Charge will negotiate correctly from the second cycle onward once the BMS has logged a complete charge profile.
