Sylvania SDVD1332 — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (357098P)
This 7.4V, 3200mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the original pack in the Sylvania SDVD1332 and SDVD1332-B portable DVD players. It uses OEM part number 357098P and restores untethered playback when the original cell no longer holds a charge. Capacity is 23.68Wh — matched to the power demands of the disc motor, display backlight, and audio output combined.
- SDVD1332 and SDVD1332-B compatibility: Both variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol, which is why a single 357098P pack covers both. Swapping between the two models is not an issue — the cell sits identically in both chassis.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on the SDVD1332 platform. The BMS held stable cell balance across both cells throughout, and thermal protection did not trip under combined disc-spin and display load.
- Charging behaviour on this player: Avoid leaving the player in disc-spin mode while charging from the AC adapter. The combined load of the disc motor, backlight, and charging current pushes heat into the pack — the battery's thermal cutoff will reduce charge acceptance if the cell temperature climbs past its threshold.
Disc not spinning after battery swap on the SDVD1332
The disc motor on the SDVD1332 draws a sharp current spike at spin-up — significantly higher than the steady-state draw during normal playback. If the replacement pack shipped at storage voltage (around 3.7V per cell), it may not deliver enough current to sustain that spike, so the player attempts to spin the disc and fails immediately. The BMS may also interpret the low-voltage startup surge as a fault and cut output. Charge the battery fully to 8.4V before the first use — that single step resolves most spin-up failures on arrival.
Screen dimming mid-movie on a fully charged battery
The SDVD1332 display driver monitors the voltage rail and steps the backlight down as pack voltage sags under load. This is not a screen fault — it is the player protecting itself against a brownout that would cause the disc to stutter or the unit to reset. On an aged or partially degraded cell, the voltage sag under combined disc and display draw can trigger dimming even when the charge indicator still shows full. If dimming starts within the first half of a disc, check resting voltage with a multimeter — a healthy fully charged pack should read at or above 8.2V at rest before load is applied.
