- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Defend platform. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on the first connect, held the 7.4V nominal rail cleanly, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff — no false shutdowns during the test.
- Sealing the battery compartment before wet-condition use: The Defend is frequently mounted on vehicles or helmets in rain and snow. Before any outdoor session, confirm the battery door latch is fully seated and the gasket is unobstructed. Even a partial seal failure lets moisture reach the contacts and causes intermittent power loss mid-recording.
Why the Defend records shorter sessions in cold weather
Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops — roughly 15–25% at 0°C and up to 40% at -20°C. The Defend pulls a consistent current load during 4K recording, so a cold cell hits the BMS low-voltage cutoff sooner than a warm one would. The camera shuts off cleanly, but the recording ends early. Keeping a spare battery in an inner jacket pocket and swapping it in just before mounting the camera recovers most of that lost capacity.
Defend won't boot after sitting in cold storage
A battery stored in a cold vehicle or outdoor enclosure can self-discharge below the Defend's minimum boot voltage — typically under 6.0V for a 7.4V Li-ion pack. The camera may show no response at all when the power button is pressed. Connect the battery to a charger first and confirm it reads above 7.0V before reinserting it into the camera. If the charger shows a charging current within a few minutes, the cell is recovering and the camera will start normally once voltage is restored.
