When a crane remote triggers a solenoid or contactor, the inrush current is brief but sharp — often 3–5× steady-state draw. A NiMH cell at storage voltage (typically around 7.0–7.1V for a 6-cell pack) has higher internal resistance than a fully charged cell at 8.4V. That resistance amplifies the voltage sag during the inrush event. If the sag crosses the BMS undervoltage threshold, the remote cuts out mid-command. Fix: charge the battery fully before first use and verify open-circuit voltage reads 8.2V or higher before operating the crane.
Remote shows low-battery warning immediately after swapping in this pack
A replacement NiMH battery ships at partial storage charge — typically 40–60% capacity. The remote's voltage sensor reads this as low-battery because resting voltage at 50% charge on a NiMH pack sits close to the warning threshold. This is not a fault with the cell. Place the battery on its charger for a full cycle before use. Once the pack reaches full charge, open-circuit voltage should sit between 8.2V and 8.6V and the low-battery indicator will clear.
