The 876's IR detector draws a sharp current spike each time it re-initialises after a standby timeout. If the cell voltage has sagged slightly under sustained load, this spike can push the pack's BMS protection threshold — triggering an abrupt shutdown even when the display shows 30–40% remaining. The root cause is voltage sag under transient load, not actual capacity depletion. Replacing an aged pack with a fresh 6800mAh cell raises the headroom between operating voltage and the BMS cutoff floor, eliminating false shutdowns.
Testo 876 not recognising a new pack after the camera sat unused for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge over storage, and if the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell the BMS enters a low-voltage lockout state to prevent damage. In this state, the 876 may show no battery icon or refuse to power on even after placing the pack on charge. Connect the camera to its official charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes without interruption — the charger applies a trickle current that nudges the cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.8V, at which point normal charging resumes.
