Both devices convert cellular data into a shared WiFi network and rely on a single internal battery to power both the modem and the wireless radio simultaneously. Mobile hotspot disconnecting users mid-session on a new battery
Even a new battery can cause mid-session dropouts if the BMS cuts power during a voltage sag. The TL-TR961 draws current from both the LTE modem and the WiFi radio at once — when multiple devices connect simultaneously, the combined peak draw can pull cell voltage below the BMS protection threshold momentarily. This triggers a shutdown that looks identical to a flat battery, even with charge remaining. If dropouts happen consistently with five or more connected devices, reduce active connections or move the hotspot closer to the cell tower to lower radio output power and stabilise draw.
Hotspot won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and the TL-TR961's BMS blocks boot if cell voltage drops below approximately 3.0V. The device will show no indicator light and appear completely dead — this is a BMS protection state, not a failed battery. Connect the charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on; most BMS circuits begin a recovery charge once input voltage is detected. If the hotspot still won't respond after one hour on charge, check the charging cable and adapter output — the BMS will not recover below 2.5V per cell.
