The EDM module draws a sharp current spike the moment it initialises for a distance shot. On a degraded or partially discharged original pack, that spike pushes instantaneous draw past the BMS protection threshold. The instrument cuts power mid-sequence to protect the cells, which looks identical to a dead battery. A fresh pack with solid internal resistance handles the spike without tripping — keep the pack above 11.5V before field use to stay clear of the cutoff margin.
Geodimeter reads incorrect battery percentage after installing a new pack
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator was calibrated against the discharge curve of the old, degraded cells. A new pack sits higher on that same curve at every state of charge, so the displayed percentage reads low — sometimes showing 40% on a pack that is nearly full. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through normal operation and the indicator recalibrates to the new cell behaviour. After the second cycle, percentage readings stabilise and track accurately through the rest of the pack's service life.
