The device reads this unfamiliar profile as a marginal or undercharged state and triggers the alarm even at full capacity. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use — after that, the BMS learns the new cell's curve and the alarm clears.
Handpiece will not power on after the battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.5V for a 6V pack — the device protection circuit blocks the power-on sequence entirely. This is not a dead cell; it is a deep-discharge lock. Place the battery on charge and leave it connected for a full cycle without attempting to power on the device. Once the pack climbs back above the recovery threshold, normal startup resumes.
