BVI 2500 self-test failure after battery swap
The BVI 2500 runs a battery self-test at every power-on. A fresh Ni-MH cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle may not hit the internal voltage threshold the BMS expects. This causes the device to flag a battery fault even when the cell is fully charged. The fix is to run one complete charge-discharge cycle before returning the unit to clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS learn routine completes and self-test passes normally.

This alarm is triggered by a BMS voltage threshold check, not a capacity check. On a new Ni-MH cell, the resting voltage after first charge can sit slightly below the OEM calibration point the device was programmed to expect. The BVI 2500 interprets this as a low-charge condition and raises the alarm. Charge the battery fully, then discharge it completely through normal use and recharge — after one full cycle the resting voltage stabilises above the alarm threshold and the warning clears.
