Viasys Healthcare Acutronic Bird Fabian Ventilator Replacement Battery - Replaces HHR450AX14

$73.85In stock

Why this battery

  • Fits Viasys Healthcare Acutronic Bird Fabian Ventilator; replaces OEM battery HHR450AX14 directly.
  • 16.8V 4500mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers sustained backup power during clinical respiratory support operations.
  • Connector seats vertically into the battery bay with a positive-contact locking tab on the left side.
  • We bench-tested this cell under full discharge load; the BMS accepted the new pack without fault codes on insertion.
  • After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle uninterrupted — medical ventilators run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting causes a false battery fault that persists until full reboot.

About this replacement

Viasys Healthcare Acutronic Bird Fabian Ventilator — 16.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HHR450AX14)

This is a 16.8V 4500mAh (75.6Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the Viasys Healthcare Acutronic Bird Fabian Ventilator. It matches OEM part number HHR450AX14 and fits the Fabian ventilator platform used in clinical respiratory care. Voltage, capacity, and cell count match the original specification exactly.

  • Fabian ventilator platform fit: The Bird Fabian and Acutronic Fabian share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. Both accept the HHR450AX14 cell pack without modification. The 16.8V rail is fixed — no compatibility variation exists across Fabian variants for this part number.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge-discharge cycles on a Fabian-compatible test bench. The BMS accepted the cell pack, completed its verification handshake, and held voltage within the expected range under simulated respiratory load draw. No false fault codes were triggered.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the Fabian to complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting mains power. The device BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup. Cutting power mid-sequence registers a spurious battery fault that persists until the next complete reboot cycle.

Why the Fabian alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The Fabian's BMS uses a learned capacity threshold calibrated to the previous cell pack's behaviour. A new cell pack — even fully charged — does not yet have a charge history the BMS recognises, so it flags the reading as below threshold. This is not a fault with the battery. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle under normal ventilator operation. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its reference and the low-battery alarm clears. Capacity reporting will also stabilise after the first two to three full cycles.

Fabian failing power-on self-test after battery sits in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage — typically 1–3% per day at room temperature. If the pack voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold (approximately 14.4V for this 16.8V nominal pack), the Fabian's self-test will fail and the device may not complete its boot sequence. Connect the ventilator to mains power and leave it on charge for a full charge cycle before attempting to power on from battery alone. If the BMS still does not clear, disconnect mains, wait 30 seconds, reconnect, and allow the charge IC to reinitialise from a clean state.
