The Fabian's BMS uses a learned capacity threshold calibrated to the previous cell pack's behaviour. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle under normal ventilator operation. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its reference and the low-battery alarm clears. Capacity reporting will also stabilise after the first two to three full cycles.
Fabian failing power-on self-test after battery sits in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage — typically 1–3% per day at room temperature. If the pack voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold (approximately 14.4V for this 16.8V nominal pack), the Fabian's self-test will fail and the device may not complete its boot sequence. Connect the ventilator to mains power and leave it on charge for a full charge cycle before attempting to power on from battery alone. If the BMS still does not clear, disconnect mains, wait 30 seconds, reconnect, and allow the charge IC to reinitialise from a clean state.
